The Plan to establish a Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sriwijaya has issued since the late 1970s. In 1980, comparative studies were conducted at various universities that had FISIP in Sumatra and Java. In addition, consultations with figures of Social Sciences were also conducted as a form of preparation for the establishment of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Sriwijaya. As a result of that, an agreement was obtained to form a study program first. And, In 1983, the State Administration Study Program was opened which is part of the Faculty of Law. Until the year 2000 the approval of the opening of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Sriwijaya University. Currently, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sriwijaya has 4 bachelor, 2 master and 1 doctoral degree programs. There are: 1. Administration Studies (Bachelor) 2. Sociology (Bachelor) 3. Communication Studies (Bachelor) 4. International Relations (Bachelor) 5. Masters in Public Administration 6. Masters in Sociology 7.
